Since 2008 Professor at Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Nagoya University in Japan
2005 - 2008 Associate Professor at Nagoya University
1998 - 2005 Assistant Professor at Kyoto University
1998 Ph.D. degree from Kyoto University under the mentorship of Yoshihito Ito
1997 - 1998 Exchange student at Uppsala University in Sweden with Jan-E. Bäckvall
1996 Master degree in chemistry from Kyoto University

Research areas

The main emphasis of his research is on the development of new synthetic methods, strategies and concepts to solve challenging synthetic problems for realizing ideal chemical synthesis and for generating as-yet unexplored molecules of significant interest. Representative projects include (1) ideal chemical synthesis through C-H bond transformation, (2) rapid synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant molecules and natural products, (3) synthesis and properties of optoelectronic materials, and (4) controlled bottom-up synthesis of structurally uniform nanocarbons such as carbon nanotubes, graphenes and fullerenes.
