Organic materials continue to attract worldwide interest. Molecules, polymers, and assemblies are the target of numerous theoretical designs and synthetic studies. Some of these targets are driven by aesthetics while others are seeking novel or optimized functions. In addition to target creation comes a desire to understand the underlying properties, spanning novel electronic structures, unusual reactivities, or tunable mechanical properties. This thematic issue seeks to highlight contemporary activities in organic materials, addressing synthesis, physical characterization, and emerging structure–function relationships. Among the topical areas of this thematic issue would be:

  • Adaptive and responsive materials
  • Drug delivery vehicles
  • Electronic/optical/magnetic materials
  • Framework materials
  • Host–guest interactions
  • Molecular machines
  • Novel reaction mechanisms leading to new materials
  • Polymer degradation, valorization, and upcycling
  • Single-molecule electronics
  • Supramolecular materials
  • Surface modification

We are pleased to announce that this thematic issue will also serve as a forum to host latest discoveries presented at the 21st International Symposium on Novel Aromatic Compounds (ISNA-21) held in Beijing in August 2026.

Submission deadline: February 15, 2027
